photography: first session

In this first session with Simon we were explained the brief and what we had to accomplish over the next few months as well as the skills that we would need to use for shooting the photography that was expected of us as second year students. We were explained that we needed to create 6 photographs that had to include 2 advertisements, 2 editorial and 2 catwalk pictures.

We were firstly shown a recap of what two of the lights we would end up using for our beauty shoots, these were a beauty dish and soft box which are attachments for lighting. The soft box is used for more softer lighting and to make the skin appear 'softer' and more airbrushed. The beauty dish is more of a light that focuses on the one place it is shone at, it also has a plate that covers the flash tube which bounces back light to the model.

F is aperture and the aperture is the hole in which light is let through the lens. Smaller then number, the bigger the hole.

Using the light meter we looked at using it to measure the light coming through the flash tube, we had to match up the lights to the camera so they right amount of light could come through.

ISO - 100 match this to the camera.

As a practical task we looked at matching the lights to the camera and also using the soft boxes and beauty dishes to create the right lighting for our looks we are going to create and shoot in a few weeks time.
