unit introduction to beauty and the brand

In today first session we had a seminar with Kat about the unit brief explaining what would be expected of us this semester. It was explained to us that we were to create 6 images in total as well as maintain a research/sketch blog. We are to create images that will be editorial, catwalk and advertisements, these have to be spring/summer 2016 campaigns for a specific make up brand. We have to include research on the 5 P's - Product, Packaging, Presentation, Promotion and Price Point.

Editorial - Telling a story.
Advertisement - Selling a product.
Catwalk - Creative shots, back stage, on run way, candid image.

We were then shown a power point that explained what the brands we could pick from, these were:

  • Illamasqua
  • Bobbi Brown
  • YSL
  • Laura Mercier
  • Dior
  • Revlon
  • Elis Faas
  • Chanel
  • Tom Ford
  • Shisedo
  • Charlotte Tilbury
  • Nars
  • Max Factor
  • Lancome
  • MAC
  • Givenchy
In this list are a mix of different brands with high and low price points and different target audiences. They also all offer a different range and quality of products such as fashion items, make-up, body and skincare products, as well as fragrances and the occasional hair care product.

We then looked at a campaign for the brand Givenchy. It featured their spring/summer 2016 campaign which featured beautiful pink shades for lips, cheeks and eyes as well a few pops of colour, yellows and blues. All products perfectly fit the stereotypical theme of spring and summer. The added the print of one of their fashion garment items onto their blush as a pressed print.

I will need to incorporate the research I have found for my chosen brand from their spring/summer 2016 collection and use this when creating my own ideas for my 6 shoots.
I will now go on to research a few of the brands as well as their own ethos for the brands and why they use the ideas they do, the people involved and what they use as their creative influences.
