Technical Session: Natural Beach Hair

For this session we had to look at three ways of creating natural beach waves.

Products used:
Hair dryer
Straighteners
Wide toothed comb
Paddle Brush
Sectioning clips
Salt Spray
Mousse
Hairspray

Method:
A scrunching technique was the first look to create natural waves. Firstly I washed my dolls head and applied sea salt spray and mousse. I then took a diffuser attachment and placed this on my hair dryer. Using the hair dryer and my hands I took sections of hair and placed them in the diffuser and dried them with a slight turn motion. After I had completed drying this section of my dolls head I sprayed it with hairspray to finish.

The second look was my favourite and something I do on myself most days. This was creating natural curls with a tong. The technique was not to use the tong as intended but to use them as a wand. I took one to two inch sections and twisted it around the tong but made sure to only curl the middle and leave the end straight. I finished my combing with my fingers and sprayed with hairspray.

The third was one I hadn't done before and this was twisting sections of hair and setting them with straighteners. Moving these up and down the sections till hot enough. Once they had cooled, brush out with fingers. I set this look with hairspray too.

Evaluation:
Overall I loved this hair lesson because doing these styles is something that comes natural to me. I believe this is because I have done these styles on myself for years. I found this lesson to be helpful and useful still because it give me ideas as to what looks I can do for my own editorial, advertisement or catwalk looks. If I could do this again I would perhaps try these out on a real person with maybe a different hair type.
